All students deserve to feel safe in school and in the world. As the federal government threatens the safety of many immigrant families, especially Latino community members, having teachers who can affirm them and see their cultures as strengths is critical now more than ever. I was asked about student safety and government immigration enforcement - this was part of my response.
I think about education every waking minute of my day. I am a parent, a former PGCPS teacher and I work in education full-time. I am a knowledgeable and experienced partner for PGCPS families.
On May 4th, I joined many community members to advocate for the County Council to fully fund PGCPS. I spoke about the critical importance of resourcing special education and the concerning state of school facilities. Most importantly, I spoke from experience. I believe in holding the school system accountable for serving all students well, but I also believe in first ensuring it has the resources to do so. We are in a childcare crisis. Our county, like our nation, is in need of quality, affordable, and accessible childcare options. This is an equity issue that has an impact on the readiness of Kindergarteners.
